out of curiosity I looked into this and managed to build a working xml using nixvirt.

  • libvirt complains that this machine type doesn't support an ide controller, which is blatantly wrong. we need to set the images via qemu-commandline.
  • installer won't boot without -M mac99,usb=on because libvirt doesn't allow removing (and keeps readding) the usb controller. setting model = "none"; doesn't fix this issue.

I've pushed a working configuration here, but ain't really sure if there isn't a way to move out some devices from qemu-commandline. i've done this way because it's more convenient
