Web Almanac 2023 edition on hold

Hey everyone, I’ve decided to put the Web Almanac on hold this year.

It was a really tough call, but it’s actually for good reasons: I’ll be taking a few months off starting in May for parental leave. So while I’m really excited about the new baby, I know that this leaves the Web Almanac in a bit of a bind. Running the project takes a lot of time and effort and I owe it to you all not to half-ass it.

I considered lots of other options before it came to this. Ultimately, I think it’s best to pause, regroup, and start thinking about 2024. There have been a few process changes that I’ve wanted to make to lessen the ~6-month commitment, starting with better/faster/cheaper access to the data, and this would be a good time to focus on that.

Meanwhile, HTTP Archive itself isn’t going anywhere. If you have any burning questions about the state of the web in 2023, you can still add new custom metrics, query the dataset, and share your findings with the community—discuss.httparchive.org is always open for new posts.

I’m going to miss working with you all again this year, and I’m sorry if you were also looking forward to the 2023 edition. Thanks for your understanding.
