Could be cool to provide some page animations for opening sidebars.

Darken website (CSS: filter: brightness()).
Blur (CSS: filter: blur()).
Lower contrast (CSS: filter: contrast()).

Filters don't always work properly with the CSS animation. Investigation needed.
