Can't find and add usb printer brother dcp 7080d

Hi,

I'm new to CUPS 2.4.16 on Debian Linux (kernel 6.19.8) and I'm having trouble adding my USB printer (Brother DCP-7080D). I'm not sure whether this is due to incorrect steps on my side.

I have already tried the following:

1. Installing the official DCP-7080D driver from the Brother website.
2. Removing the official Brother driver and installing the `printer-driver-brlaser` package instead.
3. using cups web interface or system-config-printer add printer
4. using the other way add printer: lpadmin -p myprinter -E -v  usb://Brother/DCP-7080D?serial=E80117M5X635249 -m drv:///brlaser.drv/br7080d.ppd
5. add udev rule in /etc/udev/rules.d/10-usbprinter.rules:ATTR{idVendor}=="04f9",ATTR{idProduct}=="0367",Group:="lp",ENV{libsane_matched}:="yes"
5. some site says that the ipp-usb may cause this issue, so I remove the ipp-usb package

The printer is detected correctly:

• lsusb shows the device.
• /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb also detects it.

However, I cannot see the printer in system-config-printer or in the CUPS web interface (http://127.0.0.1:631). By the way, the usb printer is work well in windows.

It would be useful to have some debug logs - run cupsctl --debug-logging, then try adding again. Also check the system logs for security reports - if SELinux or AppArmor are enabled then cupsd might not have the proper permissions to access USB devices...

Thanks for your reply and the suggestions. After running the sestatus to check SELinux status, I get: the status is disabled.

But, run sudo appmarmor_status to get appmarmor_status, I get some info about cups:

12 processes have profiles defined.
4 processes are in enforce mode.
   /usr/sbin/cups-browsed (4126)
   /usr/sbin/cupsd (4123)
   /usr/lib/cups/notifier/dbus (4124) /usr/sbin/cupsd
   /usr/lib/cups/notifier/dbus (4125) /usr/sbin/cupsd

The cupsctl --debug-logging command got nothing, The printer at the office, I'll test it next monday.

After run cusctl --debug-logging, I got the whole debug info at the /var/log/cups/error_log. see the attach file. Thanks!

OK, so I'm not sure what is going wrong here but the backend is reporting that it can't find any USB devices at all:

D [30/Mar/2026:09:05:41 +0800] [Job 49] libusb_get_device_list=0

Normally this is a permissions issue (for the /dev/bus/usb tree) or something with SELinux/AppArmor (but you indicate those are not enabled...)

Disable the apparmor, can find and add printer now. Many Thanks!
