How to run the default webext on firefox?

I will detail my attempts, following the README.md:
My goal is to see the popup on the firefox..

First I had to install pnpm

brew install pnpm

pnpm version 8.6.11 installed

Initial documented commands:

npx degit antfu/vitesse-webext my-webext
cd my-webext
pnpm i

So, with any changes after the degit, I started running..

Starting development mode (i guess)

pnpm dev

Start firefox

pnpm start:firefox

Firefox didn't open, console shows the error:

WebExtError: installTemporaryAddon: Error: Error: Could not install add-on at '<my-path>/extension': Error: background.service_worker is currently disabled

Try with chromium

pnpm start:chromium

everything works as expected!

Undocumented try:

I notice a dev-firefox script

pnpm dev-firefox

All builds seem to have started just fine..

pnpm start:firefox

Firefox opens but the popup presents:

Vite server did not start

I don't know what to try next. Is this a bug or I am missing something?

I abandoned the usage of vitesse-webext and instead I started an empty project with npm init vue. However, I will keep this question here as an artifact to the maintainers as a example of an unsuccessful experience. It may help other users somehow later.
