Error when viewing report in Eclipse

Hi!
I keep getting an error when I try to view my report in Eclipse as PDF or HTML ("View Report as PDF"). My Firefox browser opens and shows this error:

I have tried to set another browser, but the error is the same. My report is very simple and only contains some text, no data sources or data sets.

My setup:

• Eclipse BIRT all-in-one 4.17 (also tried 4.12) downloaded and extracted to a folder on my hard drive
• Windows 11 Pro
• Java: Microsoft Build of OpenJDK 11.0.25 (tried others as well)

When using a BIRT runtime I can compile the report with a simple .bat file. I have never had that error (new computer) before. It seems like a really simple thing that I am missing, but I just cant get it. Can anyone help?

Can you add the full stacktrace of the error and may be a screen?
Till now, I have no problem with BIRT 4.15 till 4.18 with the eclipse designer and the preview.

You should use a later version of Java to run BIRT 4.17.
If I recall correctly you need JavaSE-17 or later. With that said,I thought that we bundled Java with the all-in-one package. Are you sure that you use OpenJDK 11.0.25 ?

I have uninstalled Java 11 and installed Java 17. The error is still the same. But if Java is bundled in the all-in-one package, this makes no difference as you already stated. Thank you.

I have uploaded a screenshot and the error log. Not sure if the error in the error log (.gif not found) is connected to my problem though.

Ok, I have checked your log-file and the reason of your crash is an internal error. The first lines describe that the image "palette_view.gif" is not found. And of course this image is part of the eclipse-framework which will be used for the designer.
This image won't be needed for the BIRT-viewer or BIRT-output-generation.

WIth BIRT 4.17 the image was changed at the eclipse-project from "palette_view.gif" to "palette_view.png".
I'm a little bit confused with the version BIRT 4.17 which you use becuase yes, there was a version with such error but with the final version of BIRT 4.17 it was solved.

Can you write which version of BIRT 4.17 you use exactly and which donload-page you have used?
Have you the same effect with the final release of 4.17 and can you test BIRT 4.18 with your handling.

That error won't break anything. The problem is that the workspace's state serialization records the URL of the image and will contain the wrong image until you create a new workspace.

I think one thing you can do to get rid of it is use Window -> New Window and delete the old Window. Then you can try to clear the log in the Error Log view and restart. I think that will make the error go away so you can focus on other errors.

I have created a new workspace, a new project and a new simple report. Now the log does not show the error, but the preview still is not possible. Could I have a problem with Windows 11? Maybe some funny security settings that make the preview unaccessible?
