Upgrade Guide for 0.12.4 -> 1.X.X

Finally our biggest update is out!

Sadly instances for 0.12.4 are not compatible with the new 1.X.X update, but you can migrate them manually.

When updating from 0.12.4 to 1.X.X, the old launcher won't be uninstalled, so you can export old instances and import them into the new launcher. This is the best way that we suggest using to migrate instances.

If you are unsure what to do, join our Discord and ask for help!

Automatic Migration

  1. Open old GDLauncher
  2. Open new GDLauncher
  3. Export each instance from the old launcher by right clicking on it -> export. When it asks to select some files, select everything and continue the procedure.
  4. Go into the new launcher and import all the exported zips by clicking on the + icon in the bottom left corner -> import.
  5. Test every instance and make sure the migration went fine.
  6. If everything did go correctly, go to the old launcher -> settings and click "Clear All". After that, uninstall the old launcher.

If export/import for some reasons didn't work, you can still migrate them by copying the files.

Manual Migration

  1. Open old GDLauncher
  2. Open new GDLauncher
  3. For each instance in the old launcher, right click and select open folder. Then go ahead and copy the "saves" folder and "options.txt" file and paste them into a folder in your Desktop.

If it's a modpack

  1. Now go to the new launcher and create a new modpack with the same versions as before by clicking the + icon and select "Browse Modpacks", then look for the same modpack and install it
  2. Right click the new instance and select "Open Folder"
  3. Paste the previously copied things in there ("saves" and "options.txt")

If it's not a modpack

  1. Check the minecraft version of the old instance by right clicking it on the old launcher, and the forge version by going into "Manage"
  2. Go to the new launcher, click the + icon and select "Empty Instance". Now select the same versions and install the instance.
  3. Paste the previously copied things in there ("saves" and "options.txt")
