What is the "split frontend backend" branch?

is this the direction going forward? or for special application?

Correction: I misidentified what was being split. PR #1247 separates browser UI code into the JavaScript EJS_Frontend class. For example, frontend.js contains the controls, popups, and localization, and emulator.js imports that class.

The serve.py added there is a small static-file server that sets response headers. Its presence did not support my explanation of the split. I also withdraw the “experimental/development variant” characterization; I had no maintainer statement establishing that release direction.
