- Make sure you have DirectX and the following packages (linked on the bottom of this page) installed.
Note
If you double click the arma3server_x64.exe
and it boots up fine you have everything installed, if it throws an error you don't.
-
Download FASTER and steamCMD
-
Unzip steamcmd and move it to your desired location. For this tutorial we are using
S:\Games\Arma3\steamcmd
Note
This folder is where your steam mods are being saved so make sure you have enough space!
-
Unzip the FASTER release.zip and move it to your desired location. For this tutorial we are using
S:\Games\Arma3\FASTER_1_7aH3
(its best practice to not have.
orspaces
in your file path) -
Start FASTER, in the inital setup screen set your
Steam Username
andSteam Password
(FASTER won't steal your credentials, I swear!) -
In the setup window set the steamCMD directory to
S:\Games\Arma3\steamcmd
Set the Arma server install direcory to your desired location, e.g.S:\Games\Arma3\Server
- Click Continue, you will now be on the "Steam Updater" main page. It should look like this:
- Click the "update" button at the bottom to download the Arma Server files (~10GB). If you wan't to play missions with the GM or S.O.G CDCL change the "Version" from
Stable
toCreator DLC
. This will download an additional 7GB.
-
Create a new Server Profile, each Profile will be its own server with own settings, modset and ports.
-
On the Profile tab verify that the "Server File" path endsd with
\arma3server_x64.exe
, leave the "Port" at2302
. -
To the right of that you can now select the mods you want to run. If you're new to arma hosting ignore the "Server" tab, ALL mods that should be running are to be selected in the "Client" tab, "Headless" column should be same as "Client" tab. Simply right click on the column header and select "Copy from Client".
-
In the "Missions" tab select the mission you want to run. Depending on the mission you might wanna tick the "AutoInit" and "Persistant Battlefield" check boxes (the mission maker will tell you). Customize your custom difficulty options in the "Difficulty settings" to the right or use one the presets named
Recruit
,Regular
etc. -
In the "Server" tab choose a
Server Hostname
(that's what you will see in the ingame server browser) for your server,Password
andAdmin Password
. The other settings in there depend on your preferences. Check if the mods you're running need "Filepatching" (available in "Server Advanced" drop down) or Battleeye (Server Options) enabled. -
In the "Performance" tab select the correct preset for your available upload speed. If there isn't one matching your upload speed select the closest preset that's below your upload speed. DONT CHANGE ANY OTHER NETWORK SETTING!
Tip
Quick Tip Ticking the "Hyper threading" checkbox is advisable, you may also add the -limitFPS=500
to the "Command Line Arguments" box.
- For a complete profile setup check the Exemplary Mission Setup page.
Warning
If you use your client Arma install NEVER let steamcmd validate your server files, it will overwrite your full arma install (40GB) with the server install (8GB).
- Download FASTER and steamCMD
- unzip steamcmd, put it somewhere logical like
S:\Games\Arma3\steamcmd

Tip
Quick Tip the !Workshop
folder is hidden by default, make sure your explorer is showing you hidden folders.
- Now if you go to "Local Mods" main tab you'll have a list of all currently available arma mods
- Ignore the "Steam Mods" main tab, thats only used for dedicated server installs
- Under "Server Profiles" click the plus icon and create your profile, the rest is explained in "Server Profile Setup"
