Allow only runtime to be installed #655

Description:
Add an option that forwards to the corresponding install-script option.
The install script supports the --runtime option https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/tools/dotnet-install-script#options
Justification:
Runtime is smaller and when you only need the runtime it's better to not get excess capabilities.

@priyagupta108 Thank you. How long does that usually take I see some other recent issues left in this state for more than three months? I assume this would be easy to implement with GitHub Copilot.

I'm willing to submit a PR for this, if needed.
The only question would be the default value. The install script treats any
runtimeargument value which isn'tdotnet,aspnetcoreorwindowsdesktopas "install SDK instead". Should the default non-runtime value besdk,noneor something else?Athari commentedon Aug 16, 2025

This doesn't allow passing all variants of
runtime(only true/false), but can easily be improved.
