lernos in **Esperanto** is the future tense of the verb "to learn" (mi lernos: I will learn, ni lernos: WE will learn). The uppercase "OS" stands for **"operating system"** like iOS, MacOS and CentOS. Simply put **lernOS is a framework to unleash the potential learning for individuals, teams and organizations** (profit and non-profit).

The **core of lernOS** is based on principles from [Getting Things Done](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getting_Things_Done), [Objective Key Results](https://www.oreilly.com/business/free/files/introduction-to-okrs.pdf), and [Working Out Loud](https://workingoutloud.com/en/circle-guides/). If you practice one of these methods separately you can use the **lernOS Canvas** for **visual documentation**, **storytelling**, and to **expand your approach** over time.

lernOS for individuals is a self-management method for people living and working in the 21st century. To be successful in this century you have to learn, organize, and develop yourself on an ongoing basis. No matter if you are a teenager, a student, a young professional, a senior expert, a manager, or leader. lernOS brings together the best elements from existing methods (a big THANK YOU to all creators and contributors) to learn these 21st century skills:
**ANNOUNCEMENT:** lernOS is currently published in an alpha version. Version 1.0 will be released at 2018-09-17. There will be an open webcast at 2018-09-17 from 4-5pm CEST ([Zoom Link](https://zoom.us/j/889519925)).

* **[Objectives & Key Results](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OKR) (OKR):** a method developed by Andy Grove and John Doerr to manage objectives and laser-sharp focus in what we do.
* **[Getting Things Done](https://gettingthingsdone.com) (GTD):** a method developed by David Allen to handle all the stuff and information overload we have to deal with on a daily basis.
* **[Working Out Loud](https://workingoutloud.com) (WOL):** a method coined by Bryce Williams and enriched by John Stepper to systematically network with people that might help us achieving our objectives.

lernOS is a self-management method for people living and working in the 21st century. To be successful you have to learn, organize, and develop yourself on an ongoing basis. No matter if you are a teenager, a student, a subject matter expert, or a manager. lernOS integrates elements from methods like [Personal Knowledge Management]() (PKM,) [Objectives & Key Results](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OKR) (OKR), [Getting Things Done](https://gettingthingsdone.com) (GTD), [Working Out Loud](https://workingoutloud.com) (WOL), and [Scrum](https://www.scrumguides.org/) in an integrated approach.

If you have never heard of the three methods above you should start by reading about them to get a first overview. If you decide to start using lernOS the suggested way is to find 3-4 other people and become a peer support group called a "lernOS Circle". Decide when to start and meet for one hour in a so called "lernOS Sprint". Use the predefined agendas for the "lernOS Weekly" in this guide. Do a retrospective after the sprint and decide if you want to run another sprint with the same circle members.
You can use lernOS on your own. But it's better to find 3-4 other people and become a peer support group called a lernOS Circle. The Circle meets for 13 weeks in a meeting called lernOS Weekly (15-60 Minutes each). The 13 weeks are called a lernOS Sprint. Week 0 is for sprint planning and weeks 1-12 for running the lernOS working & learning programme. This way four sprints per year build the basic framework for your livelong learning process.
