(C2) How To Set Up a Server
There are several ways you can play DarkRPG on a server
First of all make sure you have the modpack installed - https://github.com/gamerpotion/DarkRPG/wiki/(C1)-How-To-Install-The-Modpack
The Serverpack can be obtained from - https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/darkrpg/files
If the latest version is not showing, then check out the #files section from the official discord - https://discord.gg/uCPfPBvsRJ
Method #1 Localhost Method
The first method involves setting up a localhost server. Get the serverpack (200mb+) from https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/darkrpg/files (click into a modpack file name and serverpack will show up at the bottom section)
(Note: Make sure your Java is up to date. It is recommended to get Adoptium OpenJDK - https://adoptium.net/temurin/releases/?version=17)
Extract the serverpack to your desktop or a known location.
Serverpack formatting has now changed. For a detailed explanation on how to run the serverpack on your local machine, please refer to https://www.gamerpotion.net/2023/08/how-to-run-server-pack-files-for-darkrpg.html
Method #2 Server Hosting
The second method involves using a Minecraft Server Hosting service. It is recommended you use a reliable service such as BisectHosting as it will include one-click pre-installed versions of DarkRPG.
Go to https://www.bisecthosting.com/gamerpotion and use the code 'gamerpotion' to get your 25% off deal. It is recommended to set up a server that has at least 8gb or more ram if you are planning on playing with more than 10 people. You can test and see how the 6gb ram option works but it may be limited to 1-4 players.
If you are using Bisect Hosting, then simply go to the Modpack menu and install the latest version of DarkRPG Fabric under the CurseForge section. Then open the modpack on your system and go to the 'MMO' section and add a server to the list giving it your new server's IP address.
If using another host, or if you want to upload your own files, make sure you use a FTP client to upload all the files properly. The serverpack is more than 200mb so make sure each file is uploaded as this may lead to problems if there are missing files. You will need to check which file the hosting company is using to launch the server and it may need to be renamed, for example - fabric-server-launch.jar
may need to be called something else depending on the server hosting requirements. After you have manually uploaded all the files/folders from the serverpack to your host, run the server making sure you see a 'done' or 'started' message in the console. Then launch the modpack and add the server IP address in the MMO section.
