Distribute graff via the ACP Registry (agentclientprotocol/registry)

Summary

Graff already speaks ACP (graff acp), but the only way to use it in Zed is a hand-written agent_servers entry in settings. The ACP Registry is Zed's primary install path ("Install from Registry" in Agent Settings → External Agents) and feeds JetBrains, VS Code and other ACP clients too.

What listing requires

1. Fork https://github.com/agentclientprotocol/registry
2. Add folder graff/ with:
   • agent.json following the schema — name, description, version, distribution info for automatic installation (npm/binary download URL per platform)
   • optional icon.svg
3. Submit a PR

Prerequisite / caveat

• The registry is curated to agents that support ACP authentication (protocol/v1/authentication). Graff currently owns its own auth (graff login, keychain) and doesn't implement the ACP auth methods — we should either document our OAuth flow as supported or add ACP auth support first.
• Listing next to Claude Agent / Codex / Gemini CLI also implies streaming tool calls + incremental session/updates; tracked separately in ACP: stream tool calls and incremental session updates (currently final-text-only) #612.

Suggested follow-ups

• Submit graff to the registry once ACP: stream tool calls and incremental session updates (currently final-text-only) #612 lands
• Then replace the manual-setup section of the install docs with "Install from Registry" (docs gap tracked in Docs: add Zed (External Agents / ACP) setup to installation docs #611)

Leaving open. Graff is not listed in the ACP Registry (agentclientprotocol/registry). There is no graff/agent.json submission, no “Install from Registry” path, and ACP protocol/v1 authentication is still unimplemented (logins stay graff login / keychain). This issue’s own prerequisite (#612 live session/update streaming) is also still open.

Submit recipe is on release/v0.0.279 continuation (not merged to main, not a retag): docs/acp-registry.md.

Correction to the earlier note: #612 mid-turn session/update streaming is already on the tagged v0.0.279 cut (ADR 0032). That prerequisite is done.

Still blocking a registry PR: graff acp initialize does not advertise authMethods. Registry CI requires Agent Auth or Terminal Auth. graff login is already Terminal Auth in product terms; it is not on the ACP wire. No registry client was added in this repo.

Leaving open until auth is advertised and a PR lands on agentclientprotocol/registry.

initialize.authMethods is on the wire in #649: graff-login / type: "terminal" / args: ["login"]. authenticate stays unused (client re-spawns graff login). Leaving this issue open until a listing PR lands on agentclientprotocol/registry — that is still the other repo. No graff registry client here.

Pinned to tagged v0.0.280 (nested ./graff-<target>/graff + SHA-256 from SHA256SUMS). initialize already advertises Terminal Auth (graff-login). No registry client was added here.

Docs pin is on #678 — docs/acp-registry.md now matches the submitted listing (registry#558, tagged v0.0.280, nested cmd, SHA-256 from SHA256SUMS).

Still no graff registry client. README “Install from Registry” waits until that listing merges.

Leaving this open. PR #701 (ACP terminal auth before credentials) is a prerequisite, but this issue closes only after graff is listed and pinned in agentclientprotocol/registry (currently #558). A code change on release/v0.0.283 does not complete the registry listing.

Registry listing PR #558 is current with registry main and now pins tagged v0.0.282.

It is not blocked on more graff code. The remaining gate is a registry maintainer approving first-time-contributor workflows (Build & Validate / Lint & Test). We cannot self-approve that.

Pre-auth from #701 is now on release/v0.0.283 (PR #703): a clean graff acp answers initialize and advertises graff-login before keys.

This issue stays open. Closing it still needs a tagged release containing that change, a pin bump on agentclientprotocol/registry#558, and a registry-maintainer workflow approval on that listing PR.

v0.0.283 is tagged and on main. Listing PR agentclientprotocol/registry#558 is now pinned to that release (six archive URLs + SHA-256s from SHA256SUMS), which includes the #701 pre-auth path.

Still waiting on a registry maintainer to approve the first-time-contributor workflows on #558. This issue was closed when #703 merged; the listing itself is not in the registry until that PR lands.
