Software Engineer & IT Systems Professional | U.S. Air Force Veteran
I’m a software engineer with a technical background that started long before I wrote my first React component.
My career began in the U.S. Air Force, where I supported mission-critical IT systems, networks, users, and secure computing environments. Since then, my experience has spanned enterprise technical support, healthcare, government IT, and software engineering.
Today, I bring that systems mindset into development — building full-stack applications, contributing to open-source projects, and continuing to deepen my skills in backend development, APIs, application architecture, and accessible software.
I especially enjoy understanding how the pieces of an application connect: from the user interface, through the API, all the way to the database.
A full-stack MERN application designed to help parents organize and track their children's health information.
Tech: React • Node.js • Express • MongoDB • Mongoose • JavaScript
I'm continuing to develop and improve GrowthGuard with a focus on:
- Child and medical record management
- RESTful API design
- Authentication and validation
- Frontend/backend data flow
- Project structure and maintainability
- Privacy-conscious application design
- Developer tooling and documentation

I contribute to the Vets Who Code open-source application through GitHub issues, feature development, testing, code review, and pull requests.
Recent work includes:
- Enhanced GitHub profile data fetching
- GitHub profile-to-user data mapping
- Authentication workflow improvements
- Automated testing
- Documentation and contributor workflow improvements
- Reviewing community pull requests
Working in an established codebase has strengthened my ability to read unfamiliar code, understand existing architecture, collaborate through Git, and make focused changes without disrupting surrounding functionality.
A React/Vite business website that also serves as an ongoing space for me to practice production-minded frontend development and GitHub workflows.
Tech: React • Vite • React Router • JavaScript • CSS
Recent work includes:
- Reusable design-system components
- Shared navigation and layout architecture
- Responsive behavior
- SEO and social metadata
- Accessibility improvements
- Site interactions
- GitHub issue and pull-request workflows

Before software engineering, I built my technical foundation in the United States Air Force as a Knowledge Operations Manager and Client Support Administrator with the 340th Weapons Squadron at Barksdale AFB.
My work included supporting secure and classified computing environments, systems and network administration, Active Directory, technical troubleshooting, IT asset management, information assurance, and Tier II support.
That experience still influences how I approach software today: understand the system, document the problem, protect the data, troubleshoot methodically, and build solutions that work for the people using them.
Right now, I'm focused on:
- Backend development and API design
- Full-stack application architecture
- Open-source software development
- Testing and maintainable code
- Accessibility and user-centered development
- Healthcare technology
- Building software that solves real problems
I'm especially interested in opportunities where my background in software engineering, IT systems, technical support, and secure environments can work together rather than live in separate boxes.
