This contribution completes your examples for an I/O in both directions, with the output depending on the input - albeit only with the identity function for now.
The history behind it is a bit funny in that I myself failed to limit the number of characters returned. It was magic by Ruben that fixed this. IIRC, the original uart_transmission transmission had the same flaw on my side - but that is another patch to come :-)
