Problem

  • Interviewing bots often concluded save_instructions wasn't available. The system prompt's "Built-in tools you can call" list never includes it, and the interview prompt said "if save_instructions is not among your tools, you're talking with someone else".
  • The tool was only offered when the trigger message came from the bot's creator, so it appeared and disappeared between turns.

Change

  • save_instructions is offered on every turn. It saves through AgentAdministration.update as the person the bot is answering, so it works for anyone who may edit the bot and is refused otherwise, or when no person asked.
  • After the interview, a bot can also rewrite its own instructions once someone who may edit it agrees to the new text.
  • The interview prompt no longer reads anything into which tools it was given. If the save is refused, the bot says so and leaves the interview for someone who may edit it.
  • Removes the interviewing turn flag and AgentRepository.finishInterview.

Testing

  • Segment tests cover a save by an editor and a refusal for a viewer.
  • No migration.
