I spend a fair amount of personal time tinkering with open-source lab projects to learn or solve problems that affect my home, such as media service optimization, network security, camera management, and photo library management.
In my free time, I ride motorcycles, scuba dive, and spend time with the family. You can view some of my riding and scuba adventures on www.oconnoradv.com.
- Current ride is a 2015 BMW R1200GS with more than 100K blissful miles. The bike is fully farkled with auxiliary lights, primary GPS, CarPlay + backup GPS, and a FLIR unit to detect animals at night
- Often scoot around the local forest service roads for weekend motorcycle camping or create memorable street adventures throughout the continental US and Canada.
- Periodically participate in long-distance competitive rallies such as the Iron Butt Rally
- PADI Dive Master - actively helping teach classes in Edmonds, WA, USA
- SDI Dive Master - not currently working with any instructors for this instructional standard
- Recreational diver since 1992 (originally NASDS, and recertified PADI in 2011)
I wanted an easier way to display my motorcycle GPS tracks on my website, so I vibe-coded a WordPress plugin called 'SpotwallaGallery' that lets you link to Spotwalla Trips, Tracks, and Retrospectives and embed them on any other WordPress page as an object ID. You can also bundle them into a Gallery of similar rides.
- Disclaimer: Gallery for SpotWalla is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or approved by SpotWalla or the SpotWalla team. SpotWalla is a trademark of its respective owner and is used here only to describe compatibility. Direct questions about the plugin to this project, not to SpotWalla.
I welcome contributors to further improve the plugin.
I am actively working on a project to make it easy for a Rally Master to create and run a Motorcycle / Scavenger Rally rally with distributed scoring within WordPress. The initiative is still in its infancy, but once the main plugin is ready, I'll open it to contributors.
- loading event scoring via url or xlsx/csv w/virus scanning
- scoring automation/mechanism
- automated ranking status updates
- create phone apps to submit bonus points
My PtGHP project is not currently public while I work out defects relating to theme complexity. The desire was to have an effective open-source WordPress --> GitHub Pages publication mechanism, but I am finding it more difficult than anticipated, mostly relating to difficulty with themes I utilize
