Step 1: Laser Cut the mask

  • Use the attached .dxf to laser cut the surgical sterilization wrap profile

  • The laser cutting will seal together the two layers of the Halyard (Polypropylene) material

  • CUT TIME:~ 3/min

  • LASER SETTINGS:100% Speed, 20% Power

Step 2: Fold and seal the mask

  • Fold the mask in half along with the “V” cut

  • Heat seal the two straight edges formed by folding along the “V” using an Impulse Heat Sealer or similar as indicated with the two black arrows arrow

    • Halyard H500: Heat each side of the “V” fold with the heat sealer set somewhere between 3-4

    • Medline Gemini: Heat each side of the “V” fold with the heat sealer set somewhere slightly less than 3

Step 3: Tape nose piece

  • Cut out .25” x 3.5” rectangular Aluminum strips from 22 gauge sheet metal .25” x 3.5” 3M double-sided adhesive strips

  • Using the adhesive strips, attach the metal nosepiece to the top center of the mask

    • Remove the white backing of the adhesive and place the metal strip onto the adhesive.

    • Remove the brown backing from the adhesive which is now attached to the metal on the other side

    • Place half the metal strip on one half of the mask

    • Continue to bend the metal piece onto the other half of the mask.

Step 4: Secure Elastic Bands

    • Cut out 2x elastic bands of appropriate length (11 inches)

    • Tie both elastic bands into the two loops

Step 5: The mask is ready to wear

Step 6 (optional): Better fit with additional rubber bands

  • 2x #33 rubber band can be used to increase the fit of the mask.

    • One rubber band is secured on the nose piece and around the neck

    • The second rubber band is secured on the chin and the top of the head
